Am I in an Abusive Relationship?
Yes, my partner:
- treats me like I “belong” to them
- tells me that if “they can’t have me, then nobody will have me”
- stops me from seeing my family and friends
- make me live in a remote or isolated area
- takes my pay cheque from me
- refuses to give me money, transportation or access to a telephone
- abuses alcohol and/or drugs
- has a history of depression
- has hurt or killed my pet in order to frighten or punish me
- has forced me to stay awake
- tell me that no else could ever love me
- has broken or damaged things that are special to me
- has endangered my (and my children) by reckless driving
- has tried to convince me to stay with them by making me feel guilty, threatening suicide, etc.
- threatens to kill me or my loved ones
- threatens to commit suicide
- uses a weapon against me and/or others
- used physical violence with me before
- ignores court orders such as a peace bond, restraining order, or bail conditions
- is sexually abusive, forcing or expecting me to do sexual acts which make me feel uncomfortable
- yes, I have had to call the police or wanted to, because I feared what my partner might do.
